Viscosity of heavy oil can also be estimated using geochemical analysis. Molecular composition of oil is a key for viscosity prediction.
Core samples at the well locations are analyzed for the mole fraction of saturates, aromatics, resins and asphaltenes in the oil. Viscosity logs are then generated using correlations (Figure 13).
